Both Charlton’s daughter Georgica and Curt’s manager Arlene’s son Ben have Type 1 (also known as Juvenile or insulin-dependent) diabetes, which is an incurable auto-immune disease in which the body loses its ability to produce insulin. While insulin thereapy allows Type 1 diabetics to stay alive, it does not cure diabetes; nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating effects: kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, amputations, heart attack and stroke. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s sole mission is to find a cure for this disease, which affects some 3 million Americans.
The 5-K Walk opens for registration at 8am and the Walk begins at 10am.
