…personally I thought last night went swimmingly well. It was nice to see the Kooks that turned up. Add that to a bunch of old friends and you get a very relaxed evening of banter and (dare I say it) good music. A word of warning to those of you yet to attend – the event is 7pm to 10pm, that doesn’t mean I’ll be playing for three hours. I do two thirty-minute sets and DJ Darren Revell from Indie 103 in LA is playing music the rest of the time (he has a very cool show called Big Sonic Heaven).
What I appreciated most was the opportunity to explain song meanings and chat more than I would normally. The intimate setting allows me to do that as I don’t have a spotlight in my eyes which means you can’t see anyone and are consequently talking to yourself. It’s certainly different for me and as they say – "variety is the spice of life" (or is that cinnamon?).
All that having been said, I’m now comfortable announcing that it’s certainly an enjoyable experience and I encourage you to get your Kooky behinds down there and join in.

PS Favorite buzzword of the evening – bipublican. Annoying person of the evening – Bill Maher (he was just damn rude when I told him I admired his work).
PPS If you decide to come down to The Standard, don’t be discouraged if you’re told all the tables are booked up. The Cactus Lounge opens up to the pool deck, where there are plenty of chairs and tables available on a first-come first-served basis. And if you DID reserve a table, make sure to show up around 7 to claim it; otherwise it might be given away.
