Heaven’s Sake is my holiday song for 2011. The idea behind it is Occupy Christmas. I was thinking about the hideous monetization (e.g. layaway) of what is meant to be a religious holiday. Christmas with piss and vinegar, if you will. If you listen closely, you’ll hear the ka-ching of a cash register in the chorus.
I’m trying something new with this one. I’ve put it up on Bandcamp, where you can name your price to download it. If you want it for free, the price is your email address
. Otherwise, pay whatever you like.
And Happy Christmas to you, or whatever it is you celebrate this time of year.
Lyrics
Silent night
Hold me tight
Winter haze
Turns to bright-er
Than bright when we’re ready to believe
The snow starts falling
Lie away, lay awake
There’ll be hell to pay
For heaven’s sake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
There’ll be hell to pay
For heaven’s sake
Silver bells
Kiss and tell
Give and take
Save yourself
For the day when you’re ready to receive
The son is rising
Lie away, lay awake
There’ll be hell to pay
For heaven’s sake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
There’ll be hell to pay
For heaven’s sake
